Oral medicine is concerned with clinical diagnosis and non-surgical management of non-dental pathologies affecting the orofacial region (the mouth and the lower face).
The oral cancer examination is completely painless.
Drs. Weinstein, Froum, Melnick, and Rascon will look and feel around the mouth and tongue for abnormalities such as unusual bumps, and red and/or white patches.
To get a definitive diagnosis, most of the time, we will perform a surgical excisional biopsy and send to a pathology lab. The results will be communicated with you.
Nonsurgical Periodontal Therapy
Scaling and Root Planing, Systemic and Local Antibiotic Therapy
The objective of non-surgical procedures is to remove etiologic agents such as dental plaque and tartar, or calculus, which cause gingival inflammation and disease. Scaling and root planing removes bacterial deposits on the root surfaces under the gums, allowing the gums to heal.
SRP may be your only treatment for cases of gingivitis and early periodontitis, but is also included in treatment for more severe disease.
Benefits of treatment include many periodontal benefits. Research has proven that bacteria from periodontal infections can travel through the bloodstream and affect other areas of the body, sometimes causing heart and respiratory diseases. Scaling and root planing remove bacteria that cause these conditions
LANAP Laser Therapy
A minimally invasive and FDA-approved procedure designed to treat periodontal disease
LANAP treatment is less invasive than traditional gum surgery. It requires no cutting or sutures, resulting in reduced post-operative pain and swelling.

Faster Healing: The laser stimulates the body’s natural healing response, promoting the regeneration of healthy gum tissue and faster recovery times.

LAPIP Laser Therapy
LAPIP, or Laser-Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure, is an effective, patient-friendly treatment solution for peri-implantitis. Left untreated, peri-implantitis negatively affects the position and integration of your dental implants, resulting in bone loss, gum recession, and implant damage.
Clinical studies show that 95% of dental implants treated with the LAPIP protocol benefit from the treatment. Following LAPIP treatment, bone growth stabilizes, allowing each implant to reintegrate with the gum pocket.
Additionally, LAPIP does not require an incision, leaving the gum tissue itself untouched. This preserves the structural integrity of your gums, leaving all future treatment options on the table.
The laser targets and ablates the bone destroying bacteria that is adjacent to your implant, but it does not harm healthy tissue or the implant. The implant surface is gently cleaned, and the surrounding bone is activated to open marrow spaces that release bone growing proteins that stimulate bone fill.
After the procedure, your doctor will give you simple and easy to follow post-treatment instructions. This is a pain-free procedure, and most patients report little or no discomfort.

Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. Gum graft surgery will repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss. Gum grafts can be used to cover roots or develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession.
During gum graft surgery, your periodontist takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root.
There is an increased likelihood that the gum-line will continue to recede in an area of prior recession.
Since the gum tissue is unable to repair itself, the tissue may need to be replaced with a minimally invasive grafting procedure.

“All On Four”, Full Mouth Restorations
